We're making ourselves an ebook
Posted: 11 Feb 12 at 20:35
The ladies of the Weybridge Women in Business Network have been getting together for 10 months now. We’ve got to know each other quite well, and have surprised ourselves at how much of a community we have become.
Now we’re building on our togetherness. Cindy of
Style and Substance Coaching came up with the idea of a set of group ebooks, and as an editor I could see the brilliance of the plan and use my skills to put the books together.
So we got together and put our case together to present to the others. This is what we said …
- Why get involved
- Free downloadable ebooks are a great promotional tool to get people to your web site or blog
- The books will establish us as experts, writing in the company of other great expert
- It’s much quicker and easier than writing a book on your own
- All each contributor has to do is come up with some tips on some chosen topics, and we will do the rest (editing and turning into a pdf)
- Contributors can re-use anything they write anywhere they like
- Their name and web site will be listed in every book we put together, so their details will go to each other’s customers and beyond
- Every time a book is published on someone else’s site, that could give them an external link to their site, and that will help to push them up search engine rankings
- If they get people to register for a book, that’s another name for their mailing list
- It’s free!
Feedback was seriously positive, so we’re moving ahead, gently.
Our first tome is to be top tips for people setting up their own tiny business, and at least half the group have articles they can offer. We have a huge range of skills, and we’ll be getting articles on marketing, web sites, financial planning, what to wear, balancing work and family, contingency planning and much more.
Deadline is this weekend, and I’m really looking forward to seeing what people are going to deliver. To make it easier for everyone, I’ve provided an example of some tips around writing for marketing that I have written, and I’ve put together a simple Word template to follow, so the group should be writing in a similar format. Our team photographer has made an image of one of our members in the home office, with that “OMG what next!” look on her face, which reflects the tone we’re projecting. It’s going to be chock full of advise based on experience and knowledge, and very easy to read.
Watch this space for what happens next …
