Top marketing trends in 2010

While social media is still high on the agenda for most marketers, they are beginning to tire of some of the social media-related buzzwords, says a new survey of marketing trends.

The top five findings of the survey are:
  • Two-thirds of marketers are more optimistic about business opportunities in 2010
  • Marketing ROI is now the most important issue, followed by customer retention and brand loyalty. Mobile marketing and social media have both increased in importance over the last year
  • While 70% of marketers are planning new social media initiatives this year, they are tired of hearing buzzwords like "social media", "twitter" and "social networking". Large companies are more likely to have a presence on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and MySpace while smaller companies focus on LinkedIn
  • Marketing executives are tending to rely on internal staff for social media initiatives. When external help is sought, it's from social media consultants and interactive agencies
  • China is the top geography for potential growth, while "Boomer" are the best demographic target

The survey was carried out by international group The Marketing Executives Networking Group and Andersen Analytics. More details can be found on MENG's web site.
