Will you be increasing your email marketing in 2010?

Email marketing budgets are to grow for 2010 for 40% of marketers, despite the continuing recession, says BizReport.

What do they expect to achieve in return? Primarily customer loyalty and incremental revenue.

We think a well-produced email missive can be a valuable tool in keeping communications open with customers. A good message is:
  • enticingly titled so that recipients open it in the first place
  • to the point and easy to read
  • with links to useful places for more information and to take up offers
Increasingly, marketers are recognising the value too of sharing emails. They are adding in a growing number of buttons such as Twitter, Facebook, del.ic.ious, digg, Reddit, ShareThis and the lesser known NewsVine, blinkbits, BlinkList, blogmarks, co.mments, Fark, Furl, Ma.gnolia, Netvouz, scuttles, Shadows, Simpy, Tailrank and YahooMyWeb. Simply clicking on the button enables a user to share the information with colleagues and friends.

Even a simple share this email button makes passing on your message easy for your audience. That's got to be worthwhile when a study by Marketing Sherpa has found that making emails shareable increases interaction rates by 25%. Emails with information and offers that have been forwarded by friends and colleagues get extra kudos through a kind of personal recommendation. And the more the email is passed around, the greater the noise it creates.
